Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa (Rūnanga/TRONA) is the post settlement governance entity of Ngāti Awa. The Rūnanga is responsible for administering the Tiriti o Waitangi settlement for and on behalf of Ngāti Awa to empower and strengthen Ngāti Awa whanau and hapū and ensure the sustainable management of our collectively held assets to meet the needs of current and future generations.
Ngāti Awa Group Holdings Limited (NAGHL) is a subsidiary of the Rūnanga and manages the commercial assets of the Iwi.
The Project Management Office manages projects for both the Rūnanga and Ngāti Awa Group Holdings Limited (NAGHL) and is tasked with ensuring all deliverables meet the contractual obligations agreed with funding bodies. One of these key projects is Building Resilient and Sustainable Communities. This project will develop the employment and economic resilience, and overall wellbeing of Ngati Awa whānau by identifying, investigating, navigating, and facilitating strategic development opportunities. The Communication and Media Officer is a new fixed term role within this project.
Whāinga I The opportunity
The Communications and Media Officer is a key communication link between the organisation, the public and the media to promote project activities and achievements. Reporting to the Programme Manager – PMO, in this newly created role, you will develop and implement a social media strategy aligned with the Communications Strategy. You’ll develop targeted social media campaigns, developing innovative and strategic social media content to grow audience engagement. You will be seen as the social media ‘guru’, training others in social media; constantly searching for new trends and developments within the digital space.
Collaboration with management to develop and implement effective communications strategies; writing; editing and distributing content across various media will form a large part of this role. You will also respond appropriately to media enquiries; arrange interviews and act as spokesperson for the organization.

- Proficiency in design and publishing software
- Demonstrated experience in digital marketing and social media
- An innovative and creative flair for making high impact communications across multiple channels
- Confidence in liaising with media with strong influencing skills
- And above all, a passion for making a difference to the future of the iwi
It goes without saying that you will have drive, energy and an uncompromising focus on health and safety. An understanding of Tikanga Māori and te reo is desirable.
